Packrafts made in Drôme ! January 2018. After 8 months on a bike between France and South East Asia, Olivier, the founder of Mekong, decided to switch from pedals to paddle and to travel down the legendary Mekong river, from northern Laos to its mouth in the Southern China Sea. During this journey the idea of manufacturing an ultralight boat, strong and big enough to carry enough gear for a long time on the river, (bicycle included!) was born. Back in France, Olivier starts to work on a first packraft prototype. Three years later Mekong designs and products a range of 6 different boats, all of them manufactured in Crest, by the Drôme river.
The 2022 edition of the Open Canoe Festival is glad to welcome Mekong as one of our main partners, including Packrafts workshops in the program.
